Vancouver, June 2016

IMG_0934Aaron and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary in Vancouver, BC.  We enjoyed 3 nights at a hostel in Vancouver, exploring the city by water taxi and bike. We then rented a car and drove to Whistler, BC for two nights, staying in a hostel again. We rented bikes and rode the valley trails, which were plenty rugged for us Michiganders.

We love our kids, but it is so nice to get away together.

Top 10 experiences/places of the trip were, in no particular order:

  1. Biking the valley trails in Whistler, BC
  2. Riding the water taxi.
  3. Biking around Stanley Park
  4. Running to, swimming in, and running back to the hostel from the outdoor salt water Kitsilano Beach pool (husband only)
  5. Finding the abandoned train along a trail in Whistler (husband only)
  6. Enjoying the fresh cheese bagels at Grandville Island Market.
  7. Seeing the musical rendition of Merry Wives of Windsor at Bard on the Beach
  8. Enjoying the “Picasso: the Artist and his Muses” at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
  9. Riding bikes around the city of Vancouver.
  10. Self guided biking brewery tour.

Luquillo, PR

Our family enjoyed a week in Puerto Rico, with our home base being the town of Luquillo.  Luquillo is  located about 1 hr from the San Juan airport.  I saw the town described as “ragged” and I wouldn’t disagree.  We rented a car  and made the sleepy drive after our red-eye flight to the condo.  With our base in Luquillo, we enjoyed visiting the nearby Kioskos and associated calm beach, El Yunque National Forest and the city of San Juan.  Had our family been a bit hardier and not so worn out from all the swimming, we could have walked from our condo to the local restaurants, but we were glad for our car. The boys also took surfing lessons from the company near La Pared and everyone was able to ride some waves in.

We stayed in the Playa Azul condo.  Our condo was clean and had many amenities: bidet, beach towels, sand toys, sunscreen, washer/dryer and basic toiletries on arrival.  Our youngest loved the condo because there were many cats that roamed the grounds and he loved to keep tabs on them from the balcony. Our oldest was glad to see the basketball courts.  My husband enjoys body surfing and assessed that the waves at our beach were the best he had ever ridden. We all enjoyed many hours in the pool.

We did not get a chance to visit the bioluminescent bay on  this trip – maybe next time!
